About

Challenging Reality is a growing collection of artistically photographed barriers to quadriplegics and the technology that allows them to overcome those barriers, survive, and complete tasks otherwise difficult, if not impossible, to complete without it. It is meant to be of interest and informative to able-bodied people as well as provide ideas for disabled persons to help them develop a solution to a barrier they face.

Challenges and solutions relevant to quadriplegics is the focus of the site because the primary contributor, Jay Scott, is a quadriplegic and because quadriplegia is a significant disability that moves from reasonable independence to extensive dependence in just a few vertebrae levels of injury. Technology, both tangible and information, can aid a quadriplegic in retaining much independence and the self-confidence that it brings.

Your subject suggestions are welcomed. The nature of the topics, technology used regularly by individuals, may make photographing them difficult if the technology cannot be way from the primary user for any length of time. Please contact Jay to see what can be done to build this resource. Photographic contributions are very welcome, but there will be a standard that must be met as the artistic portion of this site carries the same weight as the technology.

This resource is hosted on a free platform because, at this time, the financial and time cost of creating these photographs is carried by Jay. Again, this resource is meant to help people, but all content is copyright of the contributors and, if you reference this material, linking back to the original site and giving credit where it is due is the right thing to do.
